Originally called the Jubilee working men’s club and Institute, The club was originally located in the two cottages and the saloon on Torrisholme Square. In 1958, the land containing the saloon of the old club was needed to widen Slyne Road and was purchased by Lancashire County Council and the saloon was subsequently demolished. The cottages still remain the property of the club and are rented out.
In 1958 the club received a gift of the land and the current club was constructed on it. In 1963, the games room extension was added to the left-hand side of the club, this increased the size of the club and allowed the full development of the concert room.
The current club is well proportioned with a concert room that will hold up to 130 people. To the side of the concert room is a television room. The television room can also be used as an extension to the concert room or to serve food to a concert room audience. The concert room has a separate and comfortable artist changing room.
The games room has two full size snooker tables, a darts board, dominoes and card tables. A cosy snug and alcoves are available for the more personal chats.
Our bar has a selection of craft beers alongside many of the more popular beers and are offered at very competitive prices.
Jubilee’s claim to fame is that Eric Morecambe’s first paid performance was at the Jubilee club.
Our aim is to provide a comfortable and safe place for our members with a club where they can meet up with friends, socialise, having a drink, play snooker, darts, dominoes or be entertained every Saturday night in the main concert room with live cabaret and bingo.
Tuesday night’s, the line dancing group in the main hall and Tuesday is also Snooker league night where our two snooker teams, Jubilee City and United compete in the local league.
Every other Wednesday afternoon the “Sing Me Sunshine” group gather together to sing along to their favourite tunes. This is frequented by a really good cross section of our local community and allows people to meet with their friends.
We also host special cabaret nights and every 1st and 3rd Wednesday night we host the only regular big band night in the area where the top players gather to entertain what is always a well-attended night.
The ladies darts team meet on a Wednesday evening and compete in the local ladies darts league.
Thursday is bingo night in the concert room. £12.00 gives you 20 games of Bingo, a chance to enjoy the excitement of winning but most importantly meet up with old friends.
On Friday nights we have several special cabaret nights where we feature comedy, groups, tribute acts. We also rent out the room to the local Northern Soul Group and to one of our local groups who fill the room for us.
The Concert room is also available to hire on a Friday night and Sunday afternoons to members and non-members for parties, birthdays, celebrations, christenings and wakes. Whilst we do not offer food we do partner with local buffet and hot pot suppliers. Please contact us for details.
